PART VI: Winning The Room

PART VI: Winning The Room

From Great Analysis to Great Performance

"The judges don't score what you know. They score what you help them understand."

Throughout this manual, you have learned how to understand problems, analyse complex situations, develop strategic alternatives, evaluate decisions, secure financial support, and create implementation plans. Those skills produce strong solutions. But st ong solutions do not automatically win case competitions. Case competitions are unique because success depends on two very different abilities.

First, your team must develop a strategically sound solution. Second, your team must communicate that solution so clearly and convincingly that a panel of judges believes it is the best choice. Many teams master the first challenge. Far fewer master the second.

This section focuses on that second challenge. It explores how outstanding teams communicate, defend, adapt, and perform under pressure. Throughout this section, we will move beyond presentation mechanics. Instead, we will focus on executive communication.

The goal is not simply to deliver information. The goal is to build confidence in your recommendation.

By the End of This Section You Should Be Able To:

  • Organise your presentation as a persuasive business story
  • Communicate like an executive rather than a student
  • Deliver recommendations with confidence
  • Manage transitions within the team
  • Answer difficult questions effectively
  • Recover when things go wrong
  • Understand what judges are really evaluating
  • Leave a lasting impression through a powerful closing.
