HRM LIA Project

Human Resource Management (410-322-VA)

There are 3 parts to the LIA Project. 

  1. Observational
  2. Interviewing an HR Manager 
  3. HRM in Action 

Through out this project, you will see how the industry works and build your own company to organize a team and experience the challenges of being a manager. 

1. Observational

I invite you to find a business of your choice in teams of 3-4 students and organize a time to observe the day to day activities of this company, specially how do employees, staff, and managers work together to accomplish goals. 

Deliverables:

  • The preliminary search is due on August 28th, 2024 as a proposal format.
  • The actual submission is due on October 9th, 2024 alongside part 2 in a presentation and report format. 

Report due on October 9th, includes: 

  • Title Page with Team Members Name (1 page)
  • Name, Location of the company 
  • Basic information about the company (describe and mention how big is the company) (.5 page)
  • Structural information (what is the organization structure, do they have any policies) (1 page)
  • Demographics of the stakeholders (What the main audience of this company, who works in this company) (.5page)
  • Observational Report: Time, Date and Place. Participation. (3 pages)
    Write 500 words on your experience observing the day to day activities at this company. 
    Did you notice any demographic consistencies?
    Did you notice any attitudes, behaviours?
  • Taking the place of the Manager (.5 page)
    Put yourself in the shoes of the manager, how would you go about it? 

There are 21 documents for you. 
1. Signature of the Supervisor or Owner of the Company 
2. Letter of Invitation by us (Your team and I your teacher) to clarify the objective of this project and to answer any questions they may have.

Please edit this document to reflect your team members and organization name. 

The final report should be no more than 8 pages. 

2. Interview an HR Manager 

In this task, you will invite an HR Manager to speak for 15 minutes. It can be in person or by phone. 

Deliverables: 

  • This submission is due on October 9th, in the format of a 3 minutes presentation on your experience.
    No report is needed. 

On October 7th and 9th, you will be presenting in front of your class, 

You will have 10 minutes to present as a team. 

3. HRM in Action  

Part 3 of the HRM LIA is a 6 weeks project done within multiple sequences. 

Introduction

There are 4 teams whereby the captains will be chosen to choose their team members. This project will allow you to live through a series of deliverables and take turn in managing your team. 

Progression

Stage 1 - Build your team - Name the captains of the team. 
Begin building job postings and job descriptions in order to hire the right team. 
Once you have accomplished this task, begin interviewing your candidates. 
You will finish this stage with your team composition 

Stage 2 - On board the Management Logistics (Human Resource Planning) 
In this section, you will begin figuring out TalentHR (as a software) to see if it adds value to your management. 
As a team, you will delegate the work and finalize the branding and marketing of your company. 
Define the core values of your company 

Stage 3 - Begin sales of your product (Sep 30th to Oct 28)
In this section, you will begin your main deliverables of assessing the performance of your team throughout 4 weeks. 
You will live through the management of the entire team while figuring out ways to reward your team. 

Stage 4 - Assessing your project success - Reporting 
In this section, you will focus on putting the report together as a summary of your project as a team. 
You will also evaluate your peers and assess their management skills. 
This will then results in a final presentation 


Deliverables for Project 3 HRM 

Report Structure: 

  1. Title page with the branding of your company
  2. Table of content 
  3. Introduce your team and roles 
  4. Introduce your company (mission and vision)
  5. Onboarding Presentation Copy 
  6. Define your company's planning structure 
  7. Define the core values of your company 
  8. Sales performance and Team performance 
  9. Assess week by week performance by sales 
  10. Assess week by week performance of your team 
  11. Define challenges faced by the team and resolution methods 
  12. Compile all meeting minutes of the team. 

Presentation Structure is similar to the Report Structure.

You will have 15 minutes to showcase your experience in a presentation, followed by 10 minutes of Q&A to a panel.
