Team 4 : Looking at consumerism from all angles, it provides immense benefits economically, yet huge consequences environmentally. Consumerism boosts the economy and allows businesses to prosper, while circulating wealth. This aspect is essential for a healthy economy, making it the number 1 benefit of consumerism. On the other hand, consumerism causes landfills to reach full capacity and increases pollution. As fast as society purchases new products, they throw them away even faster. Consequently, consumerism is a huge factor of pollution and increases global waste. With that being said, the environment would be thriving if consumerism was banished, yet the economy would fall drastically.
