PART IX: Future Considerations

Chapter 13: Bold Ideas Without Confusing the Judges

Video: Future Considerations & Out of the Box Ideas: Don’t Confuse the Judges – Present Them the Right Way

Sometimes your team identifies a great idea that is outside the immediate scope or timeframe of the case. That’s okay. But you need to distinguish between:

  • NOW: This is our recommendation, and
  • LATER: These are opportunities we recommend exploring after the core strategy succeeds.

The Not-Now Framework

Start by saying: “Our recommendation today is…” Restate the core recommendation. Then say: “Once this strategy is successfully implemented, we would recommend exploring…” Clearly label future ideas:

  • Future Considerations
  • Phase Two
  • Long-Term Opportunities
  • Areas for Further Exploration

The judges should never be unsure about what you are actually recommending.
