Wrapping it Up
To conclude your presentation, it's essential to focus on how to wrap things up effectively, ensuring high energy and engagement as you transition into a Q&A session during a case competition or as the project moves into real-life implementation. Here are a few key points to consider:
- Complete the Circle: Bring your story to a close and reinforce the emotional connection you established at the beginning. It's important to finish with clarity, linking all elements of your narrative to leave the audience feeling excited and re-engaged about your ideas.
- End on a High Note: Aim to conclude with energy and enthusiasm, maintaining the excitement as you move into the Q&A or the next phases of the project. This is your opportunity to “close the sale” – to make a strong final impression.
- Create a Memorable Moment: I advise my teams to avoid typical phrases like “We now open the floor for questions.” Instead, strive for a “mic drop” moment. Present key information that highlights the impact of your proposal, and thank the audience for their attention.
- Focus on Impact: This is your last chance to emphasise the big picture and why your project matters. Avoid ending with a generic “thank you” slide or saying you’ll take questions now. Instead, thank the audience verbally, and wrap up your presentation energetically and engagingly.
- Control the Q&A: Consider using an executive summary or a key slide summarising your presentation. Leave this slide up during the Q&A to remind the judges of the main points as they begin to ask questions. This helps you steer the conversation back to your core message.
By following these strategies, you can ensure a powerful conclusion that keeps the momentum going into the next steps of your presentation.
